Is it hard to be you?

Do you find it a challenge to simply be yourself? Do you always feel that you are being judged or criticized by others, particularly to ones closet to you. Do you feel like you have to defend you view or perspective on issues all the time? If so, why is that your occurring of the world? Why are you struggling to be you?

It would seem like being you should be the easiest thing to do, but it isn’t.  Once upon a time it was easy and something changed that. There was a time in everyone’s life when being natural and free was the only way they knew how to be. There was a time when you didn’t know how to pretend everything was ok. There was a time when we expressed our true feelings, regardless to what we thought others would think. There was a time when we weren’t afraid to let our true feelings be known. That was the time when being you was easy.

Then the world started telling you that it wasn’t ok to be you. Then people started to tell you that you had to grow up and that the world doesn’t revolve around you.  You started to see that very few things actually go the way you want them to go and that everyone doesnt always agree with you. That’s when you started telling yourself that you have to be careful about showing your true feelings.

Then one day you wake up and realize that you spend most of your time trying to be what others want you to be, or what you thing they want you to be vs being who you actually are. The management of your multiple identities turns out to be an arduous undertaking,  yet you mange to maintain. When your with your co-workers(I’m OK), you show them the work you. When you are with your family (You Hurt Me), you show them the family you. Then when your with your friends (Party On), you show them the friend you. When your with your church friends (Praise God) you show them the church you, and so on and on.

Pretty soon it becomes a challenge to be yourself. You start to feel uncomfortable about being yourself, you belive it would only cause drama and friction. You might even start to believe that there is something wrong with you. There is nothing wrong with you, your just forgetting who you are and what you really want.

You just want to be you. For the most part we all want the same things in life, yet we have a difficult time granting those things to others. For example we all want the  4 A’s. To be Accepted, Acknowledged, Appreciated and receive Affection and we have a hard time giving them to others.  Think about it.

When was the last time you Accepted someone just as they were and liked it? When was the last time you acknowledged someone who never says good things to you? When was the last time you showed appreciation to someone who didn’t deserve it. When was the last time you initiated some affection to someone who hurt you?

My point here is this, when you stop being comfortable with yourself, it hard to be comfortable with others. When you get comfortable with who are, you will start to enjoy others more. Also when you start giving others the things you know you want, they will show up for you.  Therefore you be you, deliver the 4 A’s to everyone and let others be themselves.  Then the  world will become a better place.
